Hair is a precious gift to many, but in this modern world, many are left with a receded hairline, patches and a reduced density. This scenario is what is termed as hair loss. According to statistics, 75% of men and 25% of women have noticeable hair loss.

The effects of hair loss are many, but most witnessed among all are the loss of self-confidence and attractiveness. Although not a deadly condition, hair loss negatively impacts one’s psychological state and physical attributes. The more one loses it, the more he or she is pushed at the edge.

Alopecia Areata

Traction Alopecia

Trichotillomania

Hypothyroidism is the disease of the thyroid gland and it develops when the gland fails to produce enough thyroid hormone.

  • Medications & Supplements

Certain medications and supplements have several side effects and hair loss may be among them.

  • Infectious diseases

You may experience hair loss simply because you suffer from certain diseases like herpes, tuberculosis, and leprosy. Anemia is another common condition that can trigger hair loss. In addition, skin diseases like Lichen Planus and DLE can trigger alopecia.

Unlike men, hair loss in women takes a diffuse manner, but certainly, a woman will experience thinning in certain regions and a reduced density in the scalp hair.

Treating Hair Loss: Several Alopecia Treatments To Consider

Generally, the doctor will recommend a suitable alopecia treatment approach depending on the level of hair loss.

  • Treatments

These include Finasteride (men) and Minoxidil for both men and women. Commonly, Finasteride and Minoxidil are immediate hair loss treatments and deliver reliable results.

These may be taken in an oral form or applied to the scalp to treat and combat hair loss.

  • Therapies

Clinical therapies for alopecia treatment include Mesotherapy and Platelet Rich Plasma therapy. Mesotherapy and PRP are administered via injections, but PRP will require a doctor to extract blood from a patient’s body.

The growth factors from the blood are then injected back into the scalp to promote hair growth.

  • Surgery (Hair Transplantation)

A hair transplant is a surgical approach to alopecia treatment and it involves the extraction of fine hair follicles and their implantation. During the procedure, the surgeon will use a scalpel, a micro-punch or a surgical blade to extract hair follicles from the donor region.

In case it is the strip (FUT), it is divided to obtain individual hair follicles that are transferred in the bald zone.
